From November 20 to 26, 2026, the city hosts Japan Week, the prestigious event promoted by theInternational Friendship Foundation (IFF) in collaboration with the Municipality of Palermo. A unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the ancient traditions and contemporary arts of Japan.

Free shows, concerts, and workshops in three iconic locations around the city
Japan Week will transform three of Palermo's most evocative cultural settings into the hubs of the event:
Politeama Garibaldi: the exceptional setting for grand ceremonies and major stage performances.
Real Teatro Santa Cecilia: perfect for intimate concerts and demonstrations of traditional Japanese music.
ZAC – Zisa Contemporary Arts Area: a hub of creativity with exhibitions, workshops, and craft studios.
During the week, you can watch live Taiko drum performances , listen to the melodies of the Koto , admire the Kimono dressing , and watch martial arts and weapons master shows. There will also be hands-on workshops dedicated to Calligraphy (Shodo) , the art of Bonsai , Ikebana , Origami , and the fascinating Tea Ceremony .
